This week's question

How young do you think children should be when they start reading?
(submitted by Julie @ JadeSky)

My answer

Well I think as young as they want to start reading.  My mom starting reading to me probably when I was a baby.  Then when I was old enough to read, a young child I started reading.  I have been reading ever since.

  1. I agree! I think it's important to have books accessible at a young age, then children can take an interest if they want to.

  3. My mom was not a reader but read to me as a kid, I am an avid reader, 2 of my 3 kids are also big readers. I think the best we can do is read read read and encourage our children. I was an early reader, so was 1 of my kids but I don't think when you start reading is really important its if you keep doing it. However my middle doesn't read but she loves to create, she is an accomplished artist (went to college for it) so the pictures and lands I create in my head through other peoples words she creates on her own and translates it to a canvas.

  4. My dad read The Saggy Baggy Elephant to me approximately (to hear him tell it) a million times! I credit him (and my grade school librarian) for making me the reader I am today.
