Summary – From Goodreads

He's risking his life to save his sister while she falls in love with the dark lord who took her.

Seventeen-year-old Avikar spends most of his time in the stables trying to forget his tragic past. But when his sister Jeslyn is kidnapped, he must undertake an impossible quest to save her from the dark lord of Daath, a mystical place thought only to exist in fables. But it's very real, and dark lord Lucino has diabolical plans for Jeslyn.

Lucino is a shapeshifter who feeds off the auras of humans, and Jesyln's is the most powerful shade he's ever encountered. She should hate him. Only, the longer she's in his clutches, the more entranced she becomes with his domain-- and with the monstrous lord himself.

Avikar will give everything to find his sister, but the longer he takes, the harder she falls. And the more they and their world are in grave danger

My Review

Broken Forest is a great introduction to the Daath Chronicles series. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed reading it. I read it really fast compared to most of the other books that I read. It has friendship, mystery, romance, adventure and so much more.

Avikar is a teenager trying to forget or at least ease the pain of losing his younger brother. He feels that what happened it is all his fault. When his sister Jesyln is kidnapped, Avikar and his best friend take off to find and save her. What they don’t realize is that Daath is an actual place and not just a myth that their parents talked about. What they soon discover is that Jesyln has fallen for Lord Lucino in the short time that she has been missing. Will they be able to save her or is she lost to Daath and Lord Lucino forever?

The story doesn’t just stay focused on one character. We get to see the point of views from multiple characters. I really liked this and it was fun to see what the other characters are thinking. Avikar was one of my favorite characters. He is charming, adventurous, romantic and funny. Jesyln was a bit of take charge when needed type of girl. I liked that she stood up for herself when needed but wasn’t too much. Lucino is a unique character. I wasn’t sure at first how I felt about him but by the end he grew on me.

The ending left me with wanting to know more about the characters and what will happen next. Over all I enjoyed reading this unique fantasy story and am looking forward to reading the next book.
