Title Of Book: Shady Fortunes (Dreamweaver Chronicles #5)
Author: Douglas J. Bornemann
Publisher: Sorcelerity
Rating - 5 Stars
Level – Young adult
Genre – Fantasy
Source – e-book (review copy)
Summary – From Goodreads
Rafe Donovan approaches his fate with a healthy dose of world-weary skepticism and a heaping side of snark.
A fugitive for what seems like eons, he also can’t seem to catch a break.
Every time he escapes to a new city, trouble still finds him.
Irrevera is different, though. A mage-ruled community nestled on a remote, difficult-to-reach island ought to be the last place his enemies would look.
Finally, after living there six months without incident, he’s ready to settle down and call Irrevera home.
Trouble, though, has other ideas.
Because, in Irrevera, carnivals aren’t all fun and games, Privy Councils are privy to a bit more than is comfortable, and even tasting the sweets can unleash unexpected surprises.
Shady Fortunes is the standalone fifth book in the Dreamweaver Chronicles.
Since the Heiromancer trilogy within the Dreamweaver Chronicles (which includes Practical Phrendonics, A House of Cards, and Hanged Man's Gambit) makes up a single story, those books should be experienced in that order. The Demon of Histlewick Downs and Shady Fortunes are both complementary standalone novels designed to further immerse readers in the action-packed world.
My Review
Shady Fortunes is a standalone novel in the Dreamweaver series. I absolutely enjoyed reading it from beginning to end. There were times that I didn't want to put it down.
Rafe Donovan is a fugitive who is always on the run. But after living in the city of Irrevera he feels like he can make this his home. He is not one to make friends much but he has a good friend Mason. After winning a carnival game he finds out that not everything is as it seems in Irrevera. He thinks that he needs to leave and quickly. But things don't go as planned and this is when the fun, exciting and troublesome adventure begins.
I loved all the different characters that we get to meet. My favorites were Rafe, Mason, Cassidy and Esther but they were each added their own personality to the. story. I hope that the author will write more books with these characters as I would like to find out more about their background and what happens after the book ends.
I recommend this book to fantasy fans. It has lots of magic, adventure with lots of twists and turns. I now want to read the other books in this series! This e-book was provided to me for review. This did not affect my review in any way.
