Dragon king.

Shawnahur has finally accepted the title from his men, and he’s even become son-in-law to the king. Yet he still feels cautious in the presence of his father-in-law.

When the king’s jealousy spills over into action, Shawnahur flees for his life, leaving behind his best friend and his wife. Alone with only his dragon in enemy territory, he succumbs to a low he never thought he would. As if the guilt wasn’t enough, he’s captured and taken to the emperor. His only recourse is to feign madness.

With a grateful heart that his ploy worked and he escaped, Shawnahur thinks his fighting days are over until men begin flocking to him to lead. Some earnestly wish him well, others just long for a place away from the king’s rule, but all long to see the dragon king as head of their country.

If he’s not fighting to defend his people, Shawnahur’s fleeing from the jealous king, and longing for his wife to be at his side. Everything, though, revolves around him staying alive. If only the old mage’s prophecy was true and Shawn could be the dragon king.

My Review

Ascended is the final book in this amazing, adventurous series.  I have enjoyed reading all the books but this one out did all the others.  I loved reading it and will miss the characters!  The story is filled with adventure, action, suspense and romance.  It is a real page turner with so many twists and turns that will leave you wanting more!

Shawahur (Shawn) is hoping to settle down now with his new wife, Princess Ashley.  Once they begin their married lives together it’s not long before he is off to war with the Hameen again.  He is gone for long amounts of time.  After returning home, his father-in-law King Rian becomes even more jealous of Shawn.  All of Shawn’s men and now more are calling him the Dragon King.  Shawn tries to make King Rian understand that he doesn’t want to take the title of King away from him.  He believes that when it’s Jeeah’s time than he will be crowned King of Muintir.  But when the King tries to kill him he flees for his life.  He must leave his wife, her brother Carda, who is also his best friend and everything he has.  Once on the run he is captured and taken to the Hameen capital.  It’s only by acting like he is suffering from madness that he is able to be released.  Once he is away from the enemy territory, he learns that the King has put a ransom on him to be killed.  He is on the run from both the Hameen and King Rian.  He is not sure who to trust anymore and if he will ever see his wife again.  He has his dragon, Keenah and a few friends along the way that make life on the run a bit more manageable.

I loved the plot of this book and I was happy that the characters that I like were back along with some new ones.  Shawn continued to grow as a person, warrior and future King.  His brothers were there for him throughout his journey even though they didn’t always see eye to eye.  Shawn doesn’t always make the best decisions but he was even more compassionate to others including the Hameen just as he had been in the previous book.  I admired his character as a person with his friends, family and others.  One of my favorite characters is still Durrow.  He makes me laugh at times and is always there for Shawn.  There is just so much more to the story and I would love to tell you all the details but I don’t want to give away any spoilers.  I will suggest that you read this book and the entire series, I think you will enjoy it!
